Goodtech has delivered a new control system and sorting plant to DB Schenker. It was important to the customer to commission the plant while production was underway. Installation and commissioning were therefore planned so that the new equipment could be connected and tested while the facility was in service.
The plant was equipped with Siemens S5 PlS units, which had become obsolete. These were replaced with Allen Bradley ControlLogix devices. Work was carried out while production was underway. The control system and new equipment were installed alongside the old equipment still in service.
Testing of new equipment and logistics were also conducted alongside the old equipment. The new equipment was installed so that the switch from the old to the new equipment could be completed in seven minutes, which was very important for being able to switch back as quickly as possible.
Once testing of all components was completed, the new equipment was put in service without stopping production.
DB Schenker has obtained an ultramodern facility with improved functionality and longer service life. With the new system, operating times in production have increased at the same time as routine work for the operators has become significantly simpler. The system is easy to troubleshoot and service is performed faster than before.
Software and equipment that was included in the delivery:
- ControlLogix rack with processor, Ethernet, PROFIBUS and I/O modules
- Factory Talk View HMI system
- Database
- Server with VMWare
