Stockholm Gas

Gas has been produced and distributed in lines around Stockholm since 1853. The most recent major renovation was carried out at the beginning of the 1970s when coal was replaced by light petrol (naphtha) as the raw material in the production of town gas. The old cracked gas works in Hjorthagen has now been replaced and Goodtech has played a major part in making the change.

Oil-based town gas was replaced at the beginning of 2011 by a more environmentally friendly mixture of air and natural gas, which in turn will replace the locally produced, renewable biogas. Once the decision was made to move all production of town gas to other areas, a new solution was implemented based on facilities in three different areas with distributed monitoring in Arbro.

Two facilities were built in Högdalen – a gas facility for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and a mixing station. A facility was built in Mårtensdal in the form of a mixing station with an associated power supply structure. A new LNG facility was also built at the Värtegasverket site that will be used as a backup facility until 2013.

In principle, Goodtech has provided services in this project from our entire portfolio (power supply, transformers, LV and MV substations, backup power, advanced automation solutions with redundant control systems, UPS systems and more), and we brought in expertise from several of our branches in Sweden.
